Artist: Jan Roeser

I am a self-taught artist who lives in the Pacific Northwest with my two cats, a hive of bees, and small jungle of plants. My joy is found in the act of creation, whether through visual art, handcrafts, or storytelling. Much of my art is inspired by music and nature. I returned to painting after many years through the inspiration of my favorite musical artists, My first attempts at cyanotypes were interpretations of the songs from an album that captured my thoughts and imagination: Indigo by RM of BTS. Combined with my love of the natural world, my art is where I find peace in the chaos and stresses of daily life.

I primarily work with acrylics, gouache, and cyanotypes, although I love exploring many different styles, mediums, and techniques while fully embracing the art of the handmade. Over the years I've tried my hand at weaving, spinning, crochet, photography, jewelery-making, woodworking, and have even been known to build furniture if I can’t find what I need.

Sometimes the greatest joy comes from creating things with your own two hands.

I'm still life,

You'll can't lock me in a frame; I'm moving

I'm still life,

Life is better than death; I'll prove it.

-From the song Still Life by RM (Featuring Anderson .Paak)
